1. Stanislas Wawrinka beats Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 French Open Finals (June 7th)
A rematch of the 2015 Australian Open Semi-finals. #1 Djokovic lost control down the stretch after winning the 1st set, and#9 Wawrinka ended up with his second Grand Slam title.
2. Andy Murray beats Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (4), 5-7, 7-6 (4) BMW Open Finals (May 4th)
#3 Andy Murray won a final set tiebreaker to take home the BMW Open Championship. This was Murray’s 32nd ATP tournament title, who won the Madrid Open the following week as well.
3. Victor Estrella Burgos beats Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5) Ecuador Open Finals (February 8th)
Lopez fell just short after rallying from a 4-1 deficit in the final set. This was especially impressive after losing the second set in a tiebreaker. The win was Burgos’s first on the ATP Tour.
4. Jack Sock beats Sam Querrey 7-6 (9), 7-6 (2) U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships Finals (April 12th)
This was an all-american final between two young and talented Statesmen. Although it was only a two-set match, both sets were nail-biting and were pushed into tiebreakers.
5. Fabio Fognini beats Federico Delbonis 6-4, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (9) Rio Open Q/F’s (February 20th)
The last two sets of this thriller were about as close as can be. Fognini advanced to the Semi-finals and eventually beat Nadal to to make the finals, where he lost to David Ferrer.
6. Gilles Muller beats Paolo Lorenzi 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5), 6-4 French Open 1st Round (May 27th)
This French Open classic was the best 1st Round match of the season thus far. Not only did this one go 5 sets, but it took a tiebreaker to decide the 3rd and 4th sets. Muller was knocked out in the next round by Djokovic.
7. Novak Djokovic beats Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 Australian Open S/F’s (January 30th)
Djokovic took down Wawrinka here to advance to the Australian Open Finals, but Wawrinka got him back eventually by beating him in the French Open Finals. This was a nail-biter through the 1st four sets, but Djokovic took control in the 5th.
8. Tomas Berdych beats John Isner 3-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (1) Mutua Madrid Open Q/F’s (May 8th)
Isner took the 1st set, but Berdych came storming back to take the final 2 sets and advance to the Semi-finals. Berdych prevailed by winning the final two sets, which both needed a tiebreaker to be decided. Unfortunately Berdych lost in the Semi-Finals to Nadal.
9. Kei Nishikori beats Sam Querrey 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) Memphis Open S/F’s (February 15th)
Querrey took the 1st set, but Nishikori came back to win the last two sets via exciting tiebreaks. Nishikori went on to win the tournament, which was his 3rd career ATP Tour victory.
10. Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-0 Australian Open Finals (February 1st)
This was only a 4 set match, but the first two sets were amazing. Djokovic took control in the 3rd set and never looked back. The win marked Djokovic’s 8th career major victory.
