PlaySight (www.playsight.com), the company behind the cutting-edge tennis SmartCourt, is announcing that former ATP World Tour #2 Singles Player and BNP Paribas Open Tournament Director Tommy Haas has joined the company as an investor and partner in their marketing and media campaign.
During his illustrious career, Haas has reached a career high #2 singles ranking in 2002 and has won 15 ATP World Tour titles, including his most recent title in 2013 in Munich. He has also advanced to multiple Grand Slam semifinals including the Australian Open and Wimbledon, was a three-time quarterfinalist at the US Open, and made a run to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. In 2000, Haas earned a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics.
“I am very excited to join such a fast-growing and exciting company with an incredible group of investors in tennis with Novak Djokovic, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Pete Sampras, Paul Annacone, and Darren Cahill, and a very strong list of leaders across business, sports, technology, and media,” said Tommy Haas.
Earlier this summer, Haas was also named the Tournament Director of the BNP Paribas Open, which is the largest combined WTA and ATP World Tour two-week event in the world.
“As both a pro player and now as the new BNP Paribas Open Tournament Director, PlaySight is delivering tremendous value to all areas of the sport which is truly special for all types of players. SmartCourts are an incredible performance tool, helping players – like myself – to improve and perform at a higher level,” added Haas. “I look forward to helping accelerate PlaySight’s growth in tennis and using it for its smart feedback on my way back.”
In partnering with PlaySight, Haas joins a prestigious group of investors including Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Pete Sampras, Novak Djokovic, Paul Annacone, Darren Cahill, Bill Ackman, Mark Ein, Dr. James Loehr, Gordon Uehling III, and George Mackin, among many other leaders in sports marketing, finance, tech and media.
“Tommy is the perfect fit for the PlaySight team. Not only is he well-respected across all levels of the sport, but he is involved with PlaySight in many ways – as a player for training, as Tournament Director for fan engagement and enhancing the tournament experience, and also as a global tennis superstar to help us continue to grow our brand and visibility in the sport,” said PlaySight CEO, Chen Shachar.
Currently, PlaySight has its SmartCourt sports technology installed throughout the tennis world (and in basketball, soccer, and other ball sports, too). PlaySight is installing SmartCourts at the USTA National Campus and you can find SmartCourts at federations, academies, colleges, and clubs from the United States to Europe, China, Australia, and everywhere in between.
