The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that Simona Halep has secured a spot at this year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. The year-end event brings together the top 8 singles players and doubles teams to compete for $7 million in prize money. The Romanian joins Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams in the singles field.
Halep secured her third consecutive qualification at the WTA Finals by reaching the semifinals at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open this week. The 25-year-old is a former finalist at the event, having defeated then-World No.1 Serena Williams en route to the title match in 2014, while last year, she defeated the 2015 US Open champion Flavia Pennetta in the round-robin stages.
