With Mother’s Day just around the corner, TSF asked a few of the ladies on the WTA tour what their plans are for the special day. Monica Niculescu, Anabel Medina Garrigues, Johanna Larsson, and Casey Dellacqua chimed in — these gals are adorable! — so read their responses after the cut…
Monica Niculescu (Romania):
“I’m usually away for Mother’s Day, so I will just call my mum or send her a text to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and ‘You’re the best!'”
Anabel Medina Garrigues (Spain):
“It’s Mother’s day tomorrow in Spain (1 May) and I haven’t got a present yet! I will call her for sure and say “Hey, Mum, it’s your day!” and then I hope I can take her out for dinner one night so that the family can be all together to celebrate.”
Casey Dellacqua (Australia):
“I’m always a flower-giver, so if I’m on the other side of the world I will order some flowers on the internet and get them delivered. My mum loves getting flowers delivered and I know that will put a smile on her face. I’ve been home for one Mother’s Day in the last couple of years and we went out for a nice breakfast and bought her some presents and really spoiled her, which I think is what Mother’s Day is all about.
“Keeping in contact with my mum year-round is really important for me. I try to speak to her once or twice a week. I think it’s important to keep in touch with everyone back home, and things like Facebook are really good for that now days. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much and mum can keep track of what I’m doing as well!”
Johanna Larsson (Sweden):
“It’s a great day and we try to celebrate it a little bit at least. I always text or call her to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and give her a card. If I’m home at that time, me and my brothers may buy her a rose or something!
“It’s really important for me to keep in contact with my mum and all my family. They are, and always have been, my biggest support. I know they are always sitting at home being really nervous during my matches, so I try to call them and let them know how it is going. It’s not easy to see how the matches are going when you only have live scoring to look at!”
