Horrifically sad news today about Mathieu Montcourt, the French tennis player who has died at the age of 24.
Meanwhile, the City of Los Angeles and much of the world will have its eyes on the Staples Center, where a memorial will be held for the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Tennis players mourned the loss of Jackson while at Wimbledon, including Serena Williams and Roger Federer. However, just over two months ago, Novak Djokovic payed his own tribute to Jackson while at the ATP stop in Monte Carlo.
In true Djoko fashion, Novak danced “Thriller” to add to his cadre of impersonations. It may have been a little premature, but you can see he worked hard on his moves (‘boy can dance!’), which is a testament to MJ himself.
We’ll miss you, Michael.

Yes, Nole is truly a-ma-zing. I can’t possibly imagine any other tennis pro pulling this off as well as he did. Sure, as some goofball states in the background: “Djokovic, no Michael Jackson”..well, duh Sherlock..no-one is or will be. But quite a job from the Djokster, considering he was in the mid of a tournament and probaby had minimum time to rehearse the coreography. The guy can truly dance and entertain, and he even nailed some trademark MJ’s moves like the tippy-toe stand and (nicely underplayed) crotch-grabbing. Heeelloooo! this from a guy who is the #4 player in the world and a Grand Slam winner.
By the way, the vid was taken at last year’s Montecarlo player’s party, it just happened to be uploded 2 months ago. I’ve heard that this year Nole impersonated Hugh Heffner, other players (one for sure: Stepanek) and also portrayed a stripper..which seems to be Nole’s mised call in life..luckily for us, the guy seems to enjoy the art of “disrobing” 🙂
p.s. If anyone comes across the vid of the ’09 Montecarlo player’s shindig, PLEASE post the link!
