ORLANDO, Fla., February 15, 2017 – The USTA today announced its second weekly USTA College Tennis Top 25 rankings, which saw Virginia stay at No. 1 in the men’s poll and Florida remain atop the women’s poll, with the Gators receiving the maximum number of points.
Florida earned the maximum 150 points following its title at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships over the weekend in New Haven, Conn. The Gators defeated four straight opponents ranked in this week’s USTA Top 10 — No. 9 Michigan, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 4 Georgia and No. 2 North Carolina — to win their seventh ITA Indoors title, and first since 1999.
There was one movement in the men’s Top 5 — Wake Forest, on the strength of its 4-3 victory at Oklahoma State on Sunday, moved out of a tie with Florida for sole possession of No. 3 — ahead of the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship February 17-20 in Charlottesville, Va.
Each team’s point total, specified below in parenthesis, is the sum of its ranking points from the USTA’s panel of eight voters (listed below). Each voter ranked 25 teams from Nos. 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last-place team receiving one. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot was removed. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can receive is 150. First-place votes were not tallied.
A number of these programs will be featured live on ESPN3 through WatchESPN and the ESPN app this season as part of the College MatchDay series. The next College MatchDay will feature a rematch of the 2016 NCAA women’s championship — Stanford vs. Oklahoma State — at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, February 17 from the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando.
