Maria Sharapova - 2013 Australian Open - earrings

What say you about Maria Sharapova‘s blue stud earrings from the 2013 Australian Open? These look to us like Tiffany & Co. hardware – Elsa Peretti‘s Color by the Yard Earrings, $395.

Melbourne Miss: The World No. 2, also seeded No. 2 at the first Slam of 2013, charged through the draw Down Under, serving up two double bagels in her first two matches and dropping only nine games en route to the semis, where she lost 6-2, 6-2 to Li Na.

Li will face Victoria Azarenka in the final.

fashion focus: sharapova's diamonds

Maria Sharapova wore diamond drop earrings from Tiffany‘s Grade collection as she competed in this year’s U.S. Open. The collection features princess-cut diamonds bezel-set in square designs and paired with round diamonds in platinum. (Clothes: from Nikekits; warm-up)

On the court: Sadly, Maria couldn’t capitalize on her seeding, falling in the first week to Flavia Pennetta: 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 in the third round. (Draw: See how the last eight women are faring.)

Paris, Je t’aime: The French Open dress on Maria Sharapova was inspired by the City of Lights, marrying Masha’s ideal for unrestricted movement with the theory behind the Eiffel Tower’s construction: the structure is lighter that it seems.

And so they created this lightweight yellow Line 9 dress (referring to the Paris Metro, we assume). Note the top mesh layer on the skirt, which adds to the visible flowiness as Maria moves around the court, and the diamond cut-out on the back. All the lines along the body harken to old methods of corsetry now applied with modern techniques. She keeps going back to corsets, that one.

For the curious, she’s wearing a Nike Luna Speed 3 shoe.

Girl’s best friend: The Tiffany & Co. drop earrings that she’s wearing this week have rose-cut diamonds set in platinum. Buy: Tiffany cobblestone earrings with rose-cut diamonds in platinum; $3,200; tiffany.com.

Brackets: At the French, seventh-seeded Maria took out Mirjana Lucic 6-3, 6-0 in the first round and next faces Caroline Garcia. How far do you think she’ll go? Remember, she took a title in Rome. You can see the rest of her section of the draw here.

sharapova's teardrops — the good kind

Maria Sharapova took over three hours to defeat 26th seed Alexandra Dulgheru 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) in the quarters of this week’s Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. Up next will be Andrea Petkovic, who’s already upset Caro Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic on the way to the semis. And things don’t look good for Maria: Petko’s already beaten her once this year, at the fourth round in Melbourne.

In the bottom half of the women’s draw, the Radwanksa/Zvonareva and Clijsters/Azarenka matches’ll determine who ends up with spots in the semis. (Scan: SEO Draws)

But who cares about Masha’s ugly stats — 17 double faults; twice as many unforced errors as Dulgheru — or that she rolled her ankle late in the third set? Take a look at those turquoise teardrop earrings from Tiffany! Matches her turquoise dress, of course.

fashion focus: starfish in a little blue box

You know about our affinity for all things aquatic (what’s the word for “lover of dead zones”?), so it should come as no surprise that we’re into designer Elsa Peretti‘s line of starfish jewelry for Tiffany. Peretti is also the one behind the drop earrings worn by Maria Sharapova as part of her 2010 Wimbledon get-up.

Browse: Our fave is that simple brooch, available in 18k gold ($2,200) and sterling silver ($350). Rest of the goods are here.

a swig of fresh water

Maria Sharapova dropped by Evian’s “Babies on the Inside” event in Soho yesterday. The Openhouse gallery was packed with folks taking pics with the Baby tees, and in the back, Maria spent some time hanging out, chatting about idolizing Bono (for his humanitarianism), being a fan of Jack Nicholson (her favorite movie: “Something’s Gotta Give”), and other topics.

Over the Evian tee Maria wore a black DVF crop blazer with frayed lapels. She matched those with metallic Phillip Lim hot pants and peep-toe booties from her Fall 2010 Cole Haan collection.

And while there’s no official announcement from Tiffany, Maria will again be wearing their jewelry as part of her U.S. Open ensemble — this time drop earrings with yellow diamonds. Expect a Cole Haan bag to go with the Nike clothes and shoes, of course.

sharapova’s wimbledon

Maria Sharapova has secured her place in the second week of Wimbledon 2010 by beating Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-5, 6-3. Her opponent in the Round of 16: Serena. We can’t wait!

With no options for wacko color combos like in Melbourne and at Roland Garros, Nike played with the construction of Masha’s Lawn Women’s tennis dress, pulling the same petal theme that’s worked Maria in past outings up to the bust. To complement her long frame, they threw on a cropped warm-up blazer. Maria rounds everything out with a Cole Haan satchel with the grey snakeskin handles and gold hardware.

Speaking of hardware, Tiffany‘s provided her with the $1,500 sterling silver version of Elsa Peretti’s Diamond by the Yard drop earrings. Detail pic below in the gallery.

let’s do the masha mash!

(We were working on the blog late one night…)

Here’s what Maria Sharapova will be wearing on the court for the 2010 Australian Open.

The dress: The solid blue slip dress with the printed mesh overlay — a design plucked from Maria’s personal sketchbook a year ago — has some hints of yellow and green to help the outfit pop in the bright blue courts of Melbourne Park. Note the high neckline with the ruffled edging. The Australian dresses are never our faves, and this one is about par. What do you think of it? Tell us!.

This piece is part of a larger campaign, Nike’s Maria Sharapova Collection, which’ll have seven dresses (along with tank/skirt combos) dropping throughout the year. She even helped select the army of tennis players (sorry, models) to help do her bidding on court: Kai-Chen Chang, Julia Goerges, Anastasia Pivovarova, and Madison Keys will all wear pieces from this collection.

sharapova wears chloe (and gehry) on the roof

Maria Sharapova‘s latest Grand Slam earrings — part of her partnership with Tiffany & Co. — come in the form of a design by Frank Gehry. A party in honor of the piece’s debut happened on Wednesday night at the penthouse of the Cooper Square Hotel. Blake Lively showed up, and Maria brought out a birthday cake in honor of the Gossip Girl‘s birthday.

Note: We had reported that Masha’s earrings were available for sale. Only the sterling silver version is available. We apologize for the error.

Sign of the times: Even Tiffany & Co. is tightening the purse strings by showcasing an (ahem) affordable pair of earrings on Maria Sharapova — to match the white and tan Nike Wimbledon dress (complete with Sgt. Pepper jacket!).

Or should we say an affordable pair for us, but special for her (isn’t that always the case?). Maria’s version of the Paloma Picasso Zellige drop earrings are custom-made, with 18 karat yellow gold, based on centuries-old mosaic patterns that surround the fountain at Paloma’s home in Morocco. For the rest of us, earrings similar to Masha’s gold custom drops are available on the Tiffany website — in sterling silver form.

Buy: Paloma Zellige Drop earrings; sterling silver, for pierced ears; $250; tiffany.com.

Scoreline: The 2004 champ slipped and slid her way to a 7-5 6-4 win over Ukrainian qualifier Viktoriya Kutuzova in the first round of Wimbledon 2009. The Russian observed that the grass on Centre Court was damp and longer than when she won the title five years ago, making the conditions like that of a clay court. Up next for her is Gisela Dulko, who beat Stephanie Foretz 6-3, 7-5.
