Akiko Morigami - Fila - Sony Ericsson Open 2008

You better believe we were excited to finally see the new Spring/Summer 2008 looks from Fila Japan as worn by their sponsored player, Akiko Morigami. Here she is playing on the third day of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne. She lost to Italian Sara Errani 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.

Ever since the winter we’d been dying to figure out what the Japanese arm will be doing for early 2008 (we already know what they’re doing for the rest of the world, with Tursunov and Kuznetsova showing off at Indian Wells last week). For the most part, thanks to Ichizo, all that we found were nibblets — a cryptic post on her own site talking about a photo shoot, and that picture on the right from the shoot’s stylist.

Until this week, of course. We’ll do another post about the rest of the men’s and women’s tennis collections soon.

More: For now, see more photos (and some close-ups) of Akiko’s outfit after the cut…

adidas assault: stella mccartney spring ’08

The Spring ’08 line of adidas by Stella McCartney has finally dropped. You can check out the goods at adidas.com, but if you’re just looking for the tennis pieces, consider this storefront at Tennis Warehouse, which has an infinitely better layout. That being said, you should remember that McCartney also designed lines for yoga (aka “gym”), running, golf, and swimming.

Our tennis picks: The Gold Pleated Skirt ($100), which Maria Kirilenko wore in Melbourne; the Studio Hoody Grey ($150), above, with the trendy exaggerated cuffs; the Forca shoes in Gold ($160); and the ruffled Polo ($100).

Of the non-tennis items, we were drawn to the Swim Cover-up ($120), available in white and shell beige — the latter color is a light pink. We also liked the Golf Midlayer ($160), essentially a mini-trench coat.

spring 08: fred perry + comme des garçons

fred-perry-spring08.jpg

Fred Perry‘s Spring/Summer 2008 line dropped recently, and this bright mustard background now dominates the company’s homepage.

FP x CDG: We’ll give you our picks from their various collections. First up is their line with Japanese fashion house Comme de Garçons. Their eight collaboration with CDG continues to reinterpret classic Fred Perry silhouettes.

Key pieces are the classic polo with side panel inserts (and mismatching cuffs and collar; pictured), a navy blue bomber, and a pair of tennis shoes. Assymetrical block stripes and checkerboard sneakers (from last season return to round out the collection.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see the FP-sponsored Andy Murray wearing one of these polos for a match?

Browse: The goods will likely appear at DSM soon. For now, you can see a few more items from the S/S ’08 line after the cut…

We caught a glimpse of the adidas by Stella McCartney tennis outfits for spring/summer 2008 (at her fashion show back in September), and we’re happy to report that, judging from the lookbook, this is going to be a great line.

I must sound like a broken record, singing praise for adidas’ women’s clothes (while the men keep me yawning) but if Nike or Reebok created the same fashion-forward pieces and made them accessible to the masses, I’d be giving them props, too.

FYI: Russian Maria Kirilenko will be the face of this line on the tennis court. The other adidas darlings (Ana Ivanovic, Anna Chakvetadze, and Justine Henin) will be wearing pieces from the Competition and Edge lines.

photos from the adidas by stella mccartney s/s ’08 show

Photos from the adidas by Stella McCartney collection are up, folks.

She presented the clothes sans the traditional catwalk, instead creating outdoor scenes (pool, golf course, grassy area) where the models could show off the full range of athletic wear in action.

The tennis look is the one shown on the left. The bib front polo has puffed sleeves, and the belted skort looks like it might gather funny on the run (like last year’s Wimby dress). We’ll have to wait and see.

The bathing suit’s ho-hum, but the dress that goes with it. And Stella continues the cropped look with the sweatshorts and yellow hoodie, both of which scream “casual sporty”.

London Fashion Week closes out today with a show for adidas by Stella McCartney‘s spring/summer 2008 ready-to-wear collection.

Her event caps an exciting week that saw Luella Bartley present a collection after a six-year absence, and toasted Matthew Williamson‘s tenth year on the fashion scene.

Can’t wait to see what Stella comes up with. As usual, the collection will feature items for running, gym, yoga, tennis, swimming. It’ll also have dance gear (which she first addressed in her f/w ’07 collection).

Whatever tennis-related pieces we see are likely what’ll comprise (adidas-sponsored) Maria Kirilenko‘s outfits in 2008.

We will post pics once we get ‘em.
