sorana gives us her best katy (perry) in sd

Last Friday Night? It seems like Romanian Sorana Cirstea is channeling a little bit of Katy Petty in the latest installment of Xperia Hot Shot fun. We have to admit, this is one of the most fun projects we’ve witnessed the Xperia video series take on, even if Sorana’s dancing skills leave much to be desired — much like Katy’s. But the gal is all glammed up and the production value is high, so why not buy in a little, eh? Plus, both the ladies are adidas stars.

This is part two of a two-part collaboration that Xperia put together with famed choreographer Rosero McCoy. Watch part one here.

The Sorana two-step? No, we’re not huge fans of the ill-advised headband that Sorana Cirstea is rocking in the latest Xperia Hot Shots video, but once we got past that, we were completely digging the latest video installment from the behind-the-scenes series. Rosero McCoy, a choreographer most recently known for his work on America’s Best Dance Crew teaches the Romanian a few moves of her own in a two-part video sequence. The next vid, yet to be released, will feature Sorana in a Katy Perry-inspired get up with a crew of back-up dancers strutting her stuff. But does she have the (dance) game? “Tennis, it’s easier, to be honest,” Sorana says during rehearsal at one point. Bring your A-game, SC!

sorana and bethanie: paintball warriors

Great shot! The WTA has found the perfect mix between its “Strong is Beautiful” campaign and the ATP‘s creative sportraits for the year-end championships. It’s paintball. Yep, paintball! Here Sorana Cirstea and Bethanie Mattek-Sands take out some London frustration on two willing fellas in a back alley. Sure, there are a couple close ups we could do without, but the paint and music and fun of it makes it a great watch. The targets are Matthew Pritchard and Lee Dainton, two parts of a British comedy group (think of the Jackass boys) known as Dirty Sanchez. And yes, they get a little dirty here, too.

wta pre-wimbledon party: no grey areas

Black and white: The ladies of the WTA know how to play with a good margin of error, and it’s hard to go wrong with donning some black and white to a party. Laura Robson took a simple, cap-sleeve dress to the next level with a scooping neckline; Sorana Cirstea played sexy peekaboo with lace; Tsvetana Pironkova bared a shoulder and threw on a leather belt; Francesca Schiavone channeled Diane Keaton, Caroline Wozniacki wore Stella McCartney, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova matched her updo with a cocktail (napkins) dress, aaaand Monica Niculescu.

tgif: the wta does “most popular”

The WTA is a touring circus of high-school- and college-aged women. Fittingly, it’s ending the season yearbook style– with a voting of Most Popular on the tour.

The tour web site has launched a photo gallery of the “Top 20 Fan Favorites“. The gallery countdowns the 20 most popular players on the tour, according to the number of hits each player’s “re-launched page” has received.

While you’ll find familiar faces like Serena, Maria and Jelena in the Top 10, we were surprised at the number one billing, which went to US Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki. The likeable Dutch gal beat out Serena and Dinara Safina for top spot.

Meanwhile, Venus was not in the Top 10, landing at #11. Fellow American Melanie Oudin found herself at the sweet 16 position, though she recently turned the big 1-8 following her US Open run. Oudin is readying for her third Fed Cup appearance in next week’s final against Italy.

And it seems as though Sorana Cirstea’s unlucky fall continues. Or does it? She came in at #13, perhaps a sign to some  that the fall just hasn’t been kind to one of our tour faves. Or maybe, according to others, a turning of fortunes? We hope so. Cirstea went 0-6 to finish the year, winning just one set out of thirteen. She ends the year at number 43 in the world, after being ranked as high as 23rd in August.
