spotted in the city: shoes in boulder and ana in soho

Because there were no trophies to be handed out on Sunday, we’re throwing out a couple of our recent city sightings. Have something you’ve spotted that you’d like to share? Send it to us. -NM

We’re digging this stringing of shoes in the display window at the Newton Running store in Boulder, CO. Peruse their colorful collection here.

Though we’re loving Caro in Stella, it has been Ana that has continued to get street-level billing at SoHo’s adidas store. (TSF photos)

on the 2nd day of giftmas: if the shoe fits

There was no glass slipper to be worn on the tour this year, not – at least – for the professionals. Melanie Oudin did her best at that last year at the US Open (as did the much-forgotten Jelena Dokic at the Aussie), but no such slipper was happening this year. There were, however, plenty of good shoes to be worn by the pros and we give you a good line-up to find over the next two weeks, just in case you have a Christmas Day tennis match with Pete Sampras (or his trophy stealer).

The adidas Barricade (shown above) has been alive and well for awhile now, and the sixth version of the shoe launched this fall. Oudin sported her “Courage” pair at this year’s USO, and a bevy adidas-wearing players were together to tout the shoe before the start of play at the US Open. But you don’t need to be at Flushing Meadows to sport these kicks, find them online starting at $115.

Remember when? TSF was besties with Justine. We do: The Justine Diaries | Part 2 (We’re famous in Belgium!)

If you’re not looking for competitive kicks, we would have loved to have recommended you landing on the K-Swiss collaborative shoe, Deuce. But the shoe, which we gave a thumbs-up to in October, sold out in three weeks after a successful collaboration with Undefeated, a quirky SoCal.  Therefore, we’re giving the nod to the aptly-named “Classic Hiker” from K-Swiss, which was just named one of Complex‘s 18 Best Boots for Winter. What’s even better than the look of this no-nonsense shoe is its price: $75 online.

Below: a look at the Ariake, a K-Swiss running shoe that we’re digging. Online for $100.

Hop the jump for our other shoe picks this holiday season.

jurgen melzer’s all-white adidas shoes

Quads are made for lunging: TSF saw Austrian Jurgen Melzer (we really need to stop thinking he’s German) work for his first round victory at the 2010 US Open. His pesky opponent? Dmitry Tursunov. Melzer needed five sets to advance and fell three rounds later to Roger Federer. (This week, in Japan, he lost in the second round to Troicki.)

Restraining order be damned, we’re not quite done with our Jurgenmania: he’s made us drinks, we’ve shared moments in the loo, and now we’re looking at his shoes. As we watched that US Open match against Dima, we noticed these all-white sneakers. What’s brewin’ over at adidas R&D? (By the way, Melzer’s since gone back to the CC Genius II Synthetic.)

More: All our US Open pics (including more of this white shoe) after the cut…

reebok goes for the backside approach; more oreo (moreo?)

Reebok‘s EasyTone shoe is coming with an easy-on-the-eyes ad campaign that the company has rolled out over the last year. The ads feature backsides of women (and their calves and their thighs and their… ) in a variety of outfits, settings and backdrops. Reebok has a couple of ads circulating on TV and the web for the shoe, which has “balance-ball inspired technology” on the soles to “tone and shape.”

Buy it: From $49.99-$139.98, the EasyTone selection includes athletic wear, sandals, and boots for both men and women. Our fave? The EasyTone Reeinspire in lime green. Just in time for the Aussie Open to get under way…

More commercials: Another spot from Oreo to introduce their new “Heads or Tails” cookie with the help from Venus and company. (See a previous one here.)

k-swiss x undefeated = the “deuce” shoe

K-Swiss is the latest collaborator working with Undefeated on footwear, having their “Deuce” shoe re-imagined in five new colorways for the fall. It’s a pretty simple shoe; note the placement of that gum toebox, covering a larger surface area than what we’re used to. TSF’s pick, btw, is the bright blue one in the back!

The shoe’s now for sale at the Tokyo Undefeated store; eveyrone else gets ‘em on October 29.

A Vera good year: Meanwhile, K-Swiss workhorse Vera Zvonareva has booked her berth in the WTA Year-End Championships, joining Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams, and Kim Clijsters in this 8-woman field held in Doha. (Info: Tournament site.)
