puma gv hall of fame edition – on sale

gvspecial1eq7.jpg gvspecial2te9.jpg gvspecial3hd8.jpg

Just a quick note that the Puma GV Hall of Fame Edition sneaker is now for sale, rounding out the company’s Guillermo Vilas-inspired campaign as of late.

And in case you’re wondering: that is Vilas’ mug shot on shoe’s tongue. Such subtle vanity! (What do you think of the shoes? Tell us.)

Of course I can’t figure out where to buy them. If you’re desperate, get them from sneakersnstuff (a Swedish merchant). If you have a stateside vendor, write me back with the info: TennisCBH AT Gmail DOT com.

Puma French 77 was inspired by the '70s. keep it there.

french 77 puma

Puma has finally released the much anticipated Guillermo Vilas-inspired French 77 line this month, and I’m sad to say that except for a cute few items, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Why give us something that Stella McCartney‘s pretty much done for adidas? (Read the rest of the entry…)

Anna Kournikova’s K-swiss campaign

kournikova-kswiss

K-Swiss is banking on the face that launched a thousand Google searches to help revive its brand. And as scheduled, the company started its Anna Kournikova campaign. Here’s the commercial.

While the ad itself left me unimpressed — there’s nothing memorable about the action scenes, the CG, the Rocco De Luca & the Burden single — I must say that the SI-18 Rannells featured in the ad were awesome.

SI-18 Rannell - K Swiss

You might know that I’m a sucker for K-Swiss’ signature diagonal stripes, so I usually sing praise for their products anyway. In this case, though, there’s good reason for kudos. Much like how adidas decked out Ivanovic‘s shoes in Swarovski, and Puma put Guillermo Vilas‘ mug on the tongues of the GV series line, K-Swiss paid attention to detail and embroidered the flags of all Grand Slam host countries on the back of the shoes.

What a fitting release in time for the upcoming Fed Cup and Davis Cup ties. Flags on shirts AND shoes. Brilliant!

(Also, trivia question of the day: Name four countries whose flags only use red, white, AND blue.)

Meanwhile, the Ascendor SL T — Anna’s shoe — was shockingly uninspired. But potentially cute if in the powderblue colorway.

fashion: men's necklaces + puma prints a catalog

puma catalog

Puma wrote me yesterday asking for a mailing address. They’re sending me printed catalog! It looks like it’ll have all the French 77 goodies that we’re all dying to see. I’ll let you know when I get it….

from the New York Times At Stylezilla!, they’re talking about a recent New York Times article on the latest trend for guys:

“All kinds of men — from the designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce to the tennis player Marat Safin — feel comfortable flaunting jewelry.”

(Here’s a photo of Safin’s necklaces.)

The best part of the article? The caption that goes with this photo on the left. It reads and flows like a prayer, to be recited nightly to the fashion gods. Take a deep breath and read aloud with me…

puma French 77: an update

puma - french 77

To build more buzz for the launch of Puma‘s French 77 line this April, they’ve released a book of photographs by Hubertus von Hohenlohe with nymphs Lydia Hearst, Lizzie Jagger and Theodora Richards all shooting the shit with 70’s tastemakers Guillermo Vilas, Udo Kier, and Giacomo Agostini.

puma: French 77 and Heatherette's Lydia Bag

The Guillermo Vilas fun doesn’t stop.

french77-puma-1 french77-puma-2

A new Puma line called French 77, inspired by the wardrobe of the playboy, will launch in April. From Businesswire:

The PUMA Lydia Bag by Heatherette comes in three colors: “Delicate,” “Night” and “Wild.” Only 100 bags will be made, with most bags given to personal friends of Hearst. A very limited number of bags will be available exclusively at The PUMA Black Stores in New York City’s Meatpacking District and Tokyo beginning in May. Hearst will also auction the PUMA Lydia Bag by Heatherette at the Designers for Darfur Charity on February 9th during an event in which Hearst serves as the co-chair.

puma gv shoes
from Hypebeast

For the shoe lovers out there, here are some photos of the shoes from Puma’s GV line, designed in conjunction with Guillermo Vilas.

These models sport 19-91 on the heels to represent the year he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and they also show a picture of Villas holding a trophy on the tongue. They will hit stores in June and are the most limited of the GV series.
