at the mcqueen gala, the men (and our honorable mentions)

As the pics from the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” Costume Institue Gala have trickled in, everyone’s showing images of the ladies in their wonderful attire (see: Vogue‘s best dressed), so — aside from the Brookyn (fab!) and Serena (oy) — we’ve instead opted to showcase the dashing gents who attended as arm candy to their equally gorgeous gals-in-tow; as designers to the muses; or on their own.

But still, we couldn’t resist: the end of our list has some honorable lady mentions: Michelle Williams in Miu Miu; Janelle Monae in Chanel, Chloë Sevigny in McQueen, and Karolina Kurkova in a Jean-Paul Gaultier dress that gives Venus Williams‘ underwear gimmicks a run for its money. As for Beyoncé‘s furry boobs, we’re sorry. Look away if you have to!

nyfw s/s ’11: what we’ve liked so far

some like it hot, some like it cold…

Som likes it from the archives forty years old.

Designer Peter Som, a favorite of Maria Sharapova, is back showing at New York Fashion week after a year and a half of smaller, less costly presentations. His latest collection takes inspiration from the hippies aesthetic of Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock.

what’s sharapova to wear when peter som peters out?

Maria Sharapova the fashionista will have one less fashion show to attend at the Fall 2009 fashion week in New York City (next month). One of her favorite designers, Peter Som, has split with its business partner, leaving him without the moolah to present a proper a fall collection.

Masha showed up at his Spring 2009 show back in September in a beautiful silver and black number. She even showed newbie (and Olympic darling) Nastia Liukin are thing or two about navigating the event.

“I couldn’t believe how fast the show was,” Nastia revealed to WWD. “I was with [Maria] and she told me it’s all about the preshow, the interview and the pictures!”

masha licks her wounds in bryant park, nole's box

Maria Sharapova hung around in New York this week even though she made a quick exit as she tried to defend her 2006 U.S. Open title.

So she spent today making the rounds, first stopping by Bryant Park for Fashion Week.

She took in Peter Som‘s show, likely wearing something of his design; not sure. We love the peep-toe pumps, though! That’s Peter on the right.

Then she also sat front row at the Michael Kors show which started not too soon after. She was carrying a pretty cute clutch.

And to cap off her afternoon she joined the Djokovic camp in the player’s box for today’s final against Roger Federer. All the folks were wearing adidas‘s Summer YOC Polo in the white/red/blue colorway, which is also Serbian colors. Maria and fellow Nole guest Robert De Niro opted not to wear the shirts.

JNP wonders what this cameo means, and so does the press. They asked Nole about it after the finals match:

Q. Maria Sharapova was in your box and also Robert De Niro. What are those two relationships with you? Somebody had to ask.
