loup spring/summer 2011

Reminder: The Spring/Summer goods by NYC-based Loup are now available for the taking. We previewed them back in October and TSF had a chance to see the clothes up close at Loup’s showroom last week.

Naturally, our current obsession with soft jackets led us to Loup’s Soft Trench, made with a silky machine-washable fabric and available in pale army green. Turns out it’s a limited edition piece (our momma raised us well); get it for $105.

Browse the collection here; buy here.

TSF Podcast Feb. 2011 | Nick McCarvel with David Thorpe | To download MP3 in iTunes, just click link

Our mid-winter musings: TSF Podcast Feb 2011

What fun doing a podcast with one David Thorpe is. You folks don’t want to miss this one: we talk player-name pronunciation (it’s Rah-OWE-nitch, BTW), South American cultural customs, high fashion and how Roger Federer‘s real estate savvy has helped him stay on the top of his game. Plus! Danielle Ribner of Loup joins the convo live from Delray Beach to tell us how dang hot it is down there (jealous D!) and how fricking cool her latest photo shoot was. Oh, and how could I forget? David and I talk up Jim Courier, and what an adventure he’ll have as a one-man Davis Cup team next week in Chile. Click above! | TSF Vault: Podcasts

loup gives VolleyGirls a new look

The VolleyGirls of the Delray Beach ITC have become a staple of the SoFla event. TSF nabbed designer Danielle Ribner of Loup, to chat about the NYC-based chic clothing co dressing the ladies this year. -NM

TSF: Tell us about the partnership between Loup and the Delray Beach tourney? How did it come about? Danielle Ribner, Loup: The director of the Volley Girls at the Delray Beach ITC contacted me a while ago to ask if Loup would consider sponsoring the girls and dressing them for events during and leading up to the tournament. They seemed to really support independent designers and partneringwith up and comers which seemed ideal to me.

TSF: What are the Volley Girls? What are their history?
DR: The VolleyGirls are a team of about 15 women, some of them professional dancers, that promote and energize the tournament. They’ve been around since 2007 and every year they seem to get more popular.

TSF: When you went about this project, how did you pick the right clothes for the girls to wear? Especially thinking about Delray and the flavor/ style of the tournament.
DR: I wanted to make sure the girls had outfits that would stand out, but also feel very relaxed and stylish. Instead of looking like uniforms, I wanted to give them clothes that made them feel like cool girls hanging around the tournament so that their personality could shine through.

TSF Vault: Loup’s always turning our  head

TSF: When you look at a tournament like Delray Beach, do you get excited about the partnerships and the way that tennis can branch out from mainstream traditions?
DR: Yes, definitely! I love that this tournament feels like it’s taken its own path and makes sure to involve the community as much as possible. As a smaller company, it’s important to maintain our identity as we evolve, and I think the Delray Beach ITC believes in that too. | More VolleyGirls pics

fashion preview: loup spring/summer 2011

That’s why the lady’s on a tramp: NYC-based Loup threw some of their Spring/Summer 2011 pieces on a trampoline, playing with shadows and wind to showcase the designs dropping next year. Expect a lot more tennis-ready goods, but rest assured that the girly, non-athletic wear will also leave you with wallets wide open.

Buy: Loup’s fall/winter 2010 collection is for sale here; and these were our faves.

More: Two more spring/summer 2011 looks after the cut…

loup joins in on FNO

Fashion and tennis have been colliding all week — loving Mirka flanked by Anna Wintour and Gwen Stefani at the Federer/Soderling quarterfinal match — and adding to the hubub is Loup, who’s throwing in a 10% discount for any items purchased today. Check out the goods here. (Our fave? This Gathered Zip-up.)

how sweet for loup

TSF’s excited for Loup, the tennis clothing line that got a write-up over at DailyCandy this week (and that usually means a kiss of life — is that the antonym? — for anything trying to make it big with the ladies these days). Flashback: TSF’s Nick McCarvel chatted with Loup owner Danielle Ribner back in September.

Almost in bloom: The spring/summer goods currently on pre-order, but we’ll remind you in a week or two when everything is actually for sale. (Keeping our fingers crossed that the branded canvas totes will eventually be produced for public consumption!)

2009 holiday gift guide

While the tennis season is fully wrapped (and the exhibition season in full swing), TSF is ready to take a break for the holiday season. But before we do, it’s more than necessary to point out a few items (and looks) that you must take a peek at for the holidays. It’s our 2009 Holiday Gift Guide, and we hope you enjoy it…

First off is the Barricade L3 tennis racquet (and bag!) from adidas. That’s right, adidas. If you love to be matching in all things, then pick up this combo (in stores or online for $185) so that you can sport the adidas stripes throughout your entire game. As for adidas tennis balls, those still don’t exist. DIY, here you come.

While we love the chic look of the adidas racquet and bag, nothing beats the tennis fashion of Polo Ralph Lauren this holiday season. While the brand may not have a tennis pro to flaunt their pretty product around the globe, tennis fashion expert Dana Mason calls the fall/winter line her best seller in the store.

“I love navy and there’s a lot of that in this line. The dresses are very fitted and short with a deep v-neck,” Mason explains. “It’s all perfect for winter vacationing.”

Two of our winter faves are the Tonal Diagonal Stripe Polo (pictured below), which is on sale online right now for just $49 and the Ralph Lauren Matchpoint Dress, with much inspiration from the US Open line in which Polo took ball boy/girl (and lines person) fashion to new heights. (Dress can be seen after the cut).
