tipsarevic rolls to beat of his own drum

We already know that Janko Tipsarevic is different from the average bear, but he has shown this even more so while in Los Angeles for the Farmers Classic ATP Tour Stop. Over at Sweet Spot, James LaRosa got some taxicab confessions out of our munchkin Serb (something about sheep looking at doors?).

And earlier this week he mentioned a racquet bag change via Twitter. He rolled out the new look for his opening dubs match with Feli.

They’ll resume their partnership for a match today against the team of Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr.

Draw: See who’s left playing singles and doubles at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles.

TSF missed taking a pic of Feliciano Lopez toting a Louis Vuitton dopp kit yesterday, but here he is looking equally as fab taking some practice time in before his doubles match tomorrow (with Janko; against Hutchins/Kerr).

sightings in the stands: who needs samurai when you’ve got dudies?

Last night’s eye-candy-filled doubles match between Tipsarevic/Lopez and Blake/Querrey (will I get a cavity in my cornea??) had no visible Sam-urai contingent, possibly contributing to the Americans’ 6-3, 6-3 loss in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Dudi Sela, now clad in Lacoste, took out shotmaker Xavier Malisse 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in their first round singles match. He’ll next face the fourth-seeded Lopez.

sa watch 2010: andre in los angeles

Andre Sa, in town for this week’s ATP tour stop on the courts of UCLA (aka the Farmers Classic), is in the doubles draw with teammate Horacio Zeballos.

He was on hand on Tuesday afternoon to help tourney top seed Andy Murray warm up. Lovin’ those gold Diadora shoes!

He even made a guest appearance at the Bryan Brothers concert last night at Molly Malone’s. (Thanks to Strawberries and Scream for the pic!)

in lacko, diadora lives on

Lukas Lacko is playing an opening round match against the Latvian Ernests Gulbis at this week’s Farmers Classic in Los Angeles. While it’s not as crazy as the days of Guga Kuerten, the Diadora kit still has a slew of the loud colors (blue, red, and yellow on the wristbands) with subtle accents (the gold logo, contrast placket), but subdued with a darker, dominant color. Extra credit for the shell spiral print on Lacko’s tee.

Meanwhile, Gulbis’ hair is almost feral.

P.S. Gulbis beat Lacko in straight sets — 7-5, 7-5. The tourney’s fifth seed next faces the winner of Beck vs. Fall. (Draw: Singles.)

(O.T.) P.P.S. He annoyed the #@*&$# out of us in Shortbus, but we can’t get enough of Jay Brannan soothing/haunting cover of The Verve Pipe’s “The Freshmen”.

a date with muzz, lacoste jewelry, and off-topic galore!

Meeting Murray: Andy Murray might be back with girlfriend Kim Sears, but that shouldn’t stop you from working on getting up close to the top ATP Brit. adidas has started a raffle that could win you a meet-up with Andy in Miami (plus some Barricade-themed goods). It’s another part of their recent campaign (remember the adizine?) to toast this tennis shoe. Raffle: Enter here.

Street ping pong: From July 24 through August 22, Londoners can look out for 100 ping pong tables that will pop up across all across the city (including firehouses, apparently), all to be used for pick-up games. More info at ping.etta.tv/.

Updates for L.A.: The Bryan Brothers are playing two venues on the eve of their appearance at next week’s Farmers Classic in L.A. They’ll be at Air Conditioned Lounge in Venice and at Molly Malone’s on Fairfax. No word yet on where Nole will perform his burlesque act.

Lacoste jewelry: Lacoste will debut a line of jewelry at the same time it shows the Spring/Summer 2011 show this September. Expect to see necklaces, bracelets, and charms for bags and mobile phones. (via styelist)

in los angeles, james blake takes you to the limit

James Blake, who’s slated to play at next week’s Farmers Classic in Los Angeles, will be stopping by a local Sport Chalet to meet up with fans. He’ll be available for pics and autographs; everyone who comes can win a J-Block shirt (by his sponsor, Fila) and other merch.

If you decide to pick up one of the fan tees, proceeds from the sale will benefit Blake’s foundation, The Thomas Blake Sr. Memorial Research Fund.

The rest of the pack: Other ATP stags in the Farmers Classic barn include Novak Djokovic, Sam Querrey, and the Bryan Brothers. And the tourney’s Monday night extravaganza will feature Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. More info here.
