Over at Styleist, we point out a few U.S. Open fashion notables to the casual tennis fan: the neon Polo Ralph Lauren ballperson polos; Sharapova‘s Head bag (it’s true: we can’t stop raving about it); Galina Voskoboeva‘s ruffled dress from Ellesse (trust: it wouldn’t have made this list had it been worn by Nadia); Lacoste‘s color blocking for both men and women; and adidas‘ men’s adiZero line — all those triangle patterns are to die for!

No. 2 in the 2nd: Switzerland’s second-in-command, Stan Wawrinka, became Donald Young‘s first upset when he lost to the American 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (1-7) in the second round. Wawrinka, the tournament’s 14th seed, will be playing alongside Roger Federer in their Davis Cup World Group Playoff tie against Australia later this month. Meanwhile, Young plays Andy Murray today for a spot in the quarterfinals (if the weather allows him).

Keeping it cool: Isn’t it nice to have an un-cranky American be at the top of the sport? Perhaps Fish‘s reign as the No. 1 Yank will take the edge off for Andy…
Regardless, both chaps are still in contention for the 2011 U.S. Open title, with Roddick defeating Benneteau for a spot in the fourth round (he plays David Ferrer next) while Mardy is set to play Tsonga for a spot in the quarters. How crazy would it be if they both got through their halves of the draw and met in the final? (Bracket: See how the men’s field is stacking up.)
