The internet was abuzz after spoofs of Juergen Teller for Marc Jacobs appeared on this website. Entltled “Mr. Teller’s Borg + McEnroe”, the photos feature two guys dressed up as Johnny Mac and Bjorn Borg in the two icons’ distinct styles.
However brilliant, a Marc Jacobs spokesperson has washed their hands of this campaign. Fashionista.com wasted no time to uncover the folks behind it, correctly crediting the work to Thomas Larsson and Greg Hart of creative firm Hart+Larsson. Apparently, save for the publicity, they have no plans for these photos.
And here’s their idea behind the shoot:
Borg+McEnroe is something we’d been wanting to do for a little while now. We thought it’d be interesting to adopt two generally well-known personas, style them, identify them as Borg and McEnroe, place them within a popular commercial context (the Marc Jacobs display ad), and then turn them loose. In a world dominated by replication and automation, we wondered whether or not we could create an ‘authentic’ Marc Jacobs ad. And we think we succeeded, for the most part.
