oh, mirka!

Here’s Mirka Federer sitting with Gwen Stefani while watching hubby the fourth round between her hubby Roger and TSF bathroom buddy (and bartender!) Jurgen Melzer. Gwen looks fab as always, with the houndstooth pants and those lime green nails (which match Caro‘s adidas by Stella McCartney dress!).

Fashion Week: For those interested, L.A.M.B. will be presenting its Spring/Sumer 2011 collection on Sept. 16 as part of New York Fashion Week. View the full schedule here.

loup joins in on FNO

Fashion and tennis have been colliding all week — loving Mirka flanked by Anna Wintour and Gwen Stefani at the Federer/Soderling quarterfinal match — and adding to the hubub is Loup, who’s throwing in a 10% discount for any items purchased today. Check out the goods here. (Our fave? This Gathered Zip-up.)

sightings in the stands: gwen and gavin

Moral support: Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were on hand to watch their besty Roger Federer — top seed at this week’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. — lose to 27th-seed Marcos Baghdatis 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4). Roger had a match point in that twelfth game of the third set but couldn’t convert. TSF was on hand to watch Marcos smoke Arnaud Clement 7-6 (7), 6-1 in the second round and he’s playing pretty well this week.

Looking forward: Marcos next faces Tommy Robredo (in the fourth round) and possibly Andy Roddick in the quarters. (Men’s Draw [pdf])

oh, mirka!

Here’s Gwen Stefani with son Zuma (in his Burberry check bloomers, of course) sitting next to Mirka Vavrinec during Roger Federer‘s fourth round match vs. Gonzalez at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Be patient, Mirks — you’ll have your own baby soon enough! By the way, TSF’s been wondering: will you be picking up a Silver Cross (though be careful, you might end up mired in a legal mess), or is Marc Jacobs already working on your monogrammed Louis Vuitton baby carriage?

Another pic of Gwen and Zuma here.

“overheard” at the wimbledon final

I cracked up reading what the ladies at DISGRASIAN™ thought happened in Roger Federer‘s player’s box during his 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-8), 7-9 loss to Rafael Nadal at this year’s Wimbledon final.

MIRKA: O-kay. Time to regroup.

GAVIN: Bummer. I can’t believe my boy lost.

GWEN: Dude. I thought Roger was supposed to be, like, hella good.

MIRKA: There’s always the U.S. Open. No need to panic. (beat) Fuck. I need a donut.

GAVIN: Hey, look! Messages on my BlackBerry! I wonder who called. This could be exciting.

GWEN: Oh shit, I feel a fart coming on.

(Read the rest here.)

oh, mirka!

Mirka Vavrinec hangs out with besties Gavin Rossdale and the pregnant Gwen Stefani during her boyfriend’s semifinal match against Marat Safin on Friday.

Looking forward: Roger will overcome the mental hurdle that is his losing streak against Rafa Nadal and win his sixth Wimbledon title. This “Roger is over” talk is all bunk.

Irvinian nabbed by IMG, Nike: Along with being the top seed at this week’s USTA Boys’ 18 National Championships, O.C.’s Michael McClune has a deal with Nike and a contract with IMG. Congrats! (Kalamazoo Gazette)

More O.C.: Villa Park’s Lindsey Nelson entered the qualies at last week’s Bank of the West Classic, losing in the second round. I heard she had a quad injury, so I’m glad to see her playing.

(OT) In architecture, rise and fall: The Burj Dubai is already the tallest skyscraper in the world and it’s not even completely built. In Johannesburg, Ponte City (above) — the southern hemisphere’s tallest residential skyscraper and an excellent example of brutalism — gets a second wind. Also, the Washington Times mourns the demise of sketching as a trade practice.

flashback: roger, gwen, and gavin at indian wells

Roger Federer fans can rest assured that the world number one wasn’t all boos and hoos during his spring stint in Southern California (at the Pacific Life Open, where he suffered the first of two 2007 losses to Guillermo Canas).

Members of his local fan club, aka Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, took him out to dinner at Madeo, a great Italian restaurant in Weho patronized by Hollywood’s elite.
