Polo at the Open: Ralph Lauren continues to sponsor the U.S. Open. They’ve dressed their Madison Ave. storefront for the event. Tidbit: “Polo replaced Fila, the Open’s official apparel sponsor for 22 years, after Fila was sold to Sports Brands International in 2003.” (amNY)

More on the sponsor patch debate: American Michael Russell lost out on $3,000 because the ATP only allows sponsor patches on sleeves. But Russell prefers to go sleeveless. (I guess if he really wanted the money, he could’ve worn sleeves.) Still, I’m tellin’ ya, this could all be fixed by throwin’ shoulder tats into the picture. (Cincinnati.com)

The rooster crows: The North American arm of Le Coq Sportif, which has set up in Portland, is ready to make its move. CEO Tim Cool is looking to reconnect with those who grew up (and remember) the brand: “that’s 20- to 30-year-olds who travel and know us from abroad. Together these higher income young men and women make up the pillar of our target in the U.S. market.” (via DTL)

(OT) LV to set up shop at MOCA: You better believe I’ll be waiting in a crazy line with boppers on their Sidekicks (or are they all using iPhones now?) when the Takashi Murakami exhibit opens at MOCA on Oct. 29. There’ll also be a fully functional LV store on-site (!) selling handbags and coin purses customized by Murakami for the show.

Some people aren’t so keen on the fact that a for-profit company will be selling goods on the premises of a non-profit, and I agree: I hope that some of the proceeds would go back to funding the museum, but that likely won’t happen. (via This Heart’s On Fire)

(OT) Cavalli and H&M: This interview with The Times coincides with the announcement of designer Roberto Cavalli launching a collection for H&M in November.

On working with the Swedish clothing company:

“I said OK to H&M so that youngsters could have the chance to wear Cavalli, not just the beautiful stars on the red carpet. The style is very Cavalli — a little bit from the past but, more importantly, a vision of the future. I hope to see lots of girls queueing up to discover what I have created for them.”

On hiring Kate Moss right after her big cocaine scandal:

“People asked me why I used Kate Moss immediately after her drug scandal. I find her a great professional, and I have always liked her personality. I have never thought: ‘Does this person use drugs or not?’ I am anti-drugs, but what can you do? As designers we have to trust the models’ personality and professionalism.
