fans flock to rafa’s big (shirtless) unveil

They came to see Him, with a capital “H”: Do you love a tourist-crowded department store in the middle of New York City on a weekday afternoon? If so, please quit reading this blog — we don’t understand you. TSF joined the likes of fellow blogs Tennis Panorama and Down the Line! on Thursday afternoon at Macy’s in Manhattan’s Herald Square for the unveiling of Rafael Nadal‘s Armani jeans billboard at the store. Oh right, and there were hundreds of Rafafanatics there, too. (See above.)

Crowds poured into the usually-packed-anyways Macy’s for the unveil, which saw the world no. 2 step onto stage, say, “Hel-lo” into a mike and get his photo snapped — with the billboard of himself. How do you think he looks?

Above: A reporter records a spot on the stage where Nadal would later hand out 100 pairs of briefs bearing his signature for the first 100 customers to spend over $150 on Armani collection items that day. Below: TSF’s view from behind a barrage of cameras flashing at Rafa.

Plenty of Rafa posters welcomed fans around the store on Thursday.

shirtless: guillermo canas

So are we the only ones seeing more and more men wear their long hair in buns these days? Kinda loving it as a summer look…

Speaking of bun (and buns) Guillermo Canas has been popping in and out of our line of sight at this week’s Farmer’s Classic, where he’s been working with semifinalist Ernests Gulbis. The lanky Latvian booked his spot in the final four with that upset of second seed Juan Martin Del Potro 6-4, 7-6 (3), making this his first semi appearance since January in Sydney. Gulbis will play Alex Bogomolov, who staged his own upset in the Grandstand court in his quarterfinal against Thomaz Bellucci.

Frenchman Maxime Teixeira won the battle of local wildcards at Roland Garros, beating Vincent Millot 6-2, 5-7, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1 in the first round. Unfortunately, he now faces third seed Roger Federer. (Read: How TSF sees the ATP draw playing out.)

(b)Asics: See all the pieces from this Spring’s Asics line — a crew, a polo, shorts — at Tennis Express. Note: the colors are “Real White” and “Diving Blue.”

no djoke: novak goes shirtless in vogue

Consider it the ultimate tennis bitch slap. Sure, Novak Djokovic is by far the hottest thing on the tennis circuit right now, but for Anna Wintour to go as far and shoot the world no. 2 for a spread on the mag’s website and a bikini shot worth two (three if you want to study hard) glances, is so … un-Federer.

Is Mirka seething? Well, we can’t quite know. But Djoko looks fantastic in the black swim trunks, seen above on the entrance of Vogue.com today and below in the image, which was taken by Norman Jean Roy. Roy has plenty of high-quality fashion accolades to his name, including Vanity Fair and Details alongside Vogue, of course. He took this well-known image of Lindsay Lohan for the cover of Vanity Fair.

So is Anna over Rog? Naw. We doubt it. But would he ever pose in a tiny black swimsuit like that? We sort of doubt. Below, another look at the bikini and after the cut, Djoko wears … clothes. The shoot took place in Miami during the Sony Ericsson Open.

shirtless: juan monaco

Juan Monaco‘s playing at this week’s combined Mutua Madrid Open, winning his first-rounder against Andrey Golubev 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. He’ll need to step it up if he wants to upset ninth seed Gael Monfils in the next round. They both share the same quarter as Andy Murray (though we think it’s Tomas Berdych‘s to lose). Browse: Mutua Madrid Open Draws.

Taking pic(o)s: Some shots we took of Monaco earlier this year at Indian Wells.

shirtless: tim smyczek

Anyone else ready to make this Donald Young vs. P-Mac story about Tim Smyczek instead? (Aside from Forty Deuce, we mean.) After all, Tim’s the guy who beat Young 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in that USTA six-man playoff in Boca West to nab a wildcard spot into Roland Garros this year. FYI: Smyczek’s never played the French. On the women’s side, top seed Irina Falconi beat third seed Julia Boserup 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

More news: Dunlop announced today that they’re making Tim a part of their roster (though he’s been playing with their racquets even before the signing). His apparel and shoes are via adidas.

Shirtless: Here’s Smyczek getting sun and practice at this year’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. On the other side of the net: Ryan Sweeting. Enjoy!
