uniqlo releases novak djokovic’s 2013 u.s. open kit

Uniqlo releases Novak Djokovic 2013 U.S. Open kit

UNIQLO previewed the 2013 U.S. Open kits to be worn by World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and at the same time announced that it would sell a collection based on these styles, available to the public.

The designs keep simple, as has been the case for Djokovic’s UNIQLO uniforms thus far, and the Japanese outfitter’s design director, Naoki Takizawa, explained their concept behind the pieces. “The collection captures [Novak’s] calm demeanor as well as his strong energy on the court in a striking yet unconventional black scheme and includes a mint green color that was chosen by Novak. The red version of his performance wear portrays a sense of passion while incorporating the UNIQLO official company colors of red and white. Once again the lines are an important design element aimed to help visualize his physical strength and speed on the court.”

The company also offered another description for the collection on their website: “While unusual in the tennis world, we chose black as a key color in this year’s U.S. Open Collection.” JFTR, it’s really not that unusual, at least not for the U.S. Open (See: Roger and Serena wear black in NYC.)

“To us,” UNIQLO continues, “the color represents the strength and elegance of Novak Djokovic’s playing style. The mint blue detailing matches the tournament’s official color and symbolizes the cool agility of Novak’s movements on the court.”

Buy: Novak Djokovic Performance Wear; polo, shorts, track jacket, track pants priced at $49.90; socks, $9.90; uniqlo.com

Looking forward: Djokovic heads into the final Slam of the year with a 5-2 record for the summer hard court season; he lost in the semis of Montreal to Rafael Nadal and the quarters of the Western & Southern Open to John Isner.

serena: aneres is making a comeback

Serena Williams talks about reviving Aneres clothing brand

Serena Williams survived some strong play by defending champion Li Na at the 2013 Western & Southern Open, winning their semifinal 7-5, 7-5 on Saturday night.

This victory also catapulted Serena to the top of the Emirates U.S. Open Series; she was awarded the trophy on court after her victory. Winning the U.S. Open Series could be a financial boon for the World No. 1 should she win the U.S. Open trophy in a few weeks: she would get a $1 million bonus to go with the $2.6 million paycheck awarded to the Champion.

In her post-semi press conference, Serena talked about what she would do with her potential earnings and possibly investing in a new business.

Q. What company is that?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I’m actually starting my company Aneres, which is my clothing line. It will be Aneres.com. You can buy fashions from there. We’re going to have to find some potential investors, and I’m looking at that as well. Probably do some more stuff like that.

Q. How does that fit with your HSN stuff?

SERENA WILLIAMS: It fits well. [At} HSN, my client is a particular I have a particular client at HSN. So when I’m designing — and I’m actually designing for Aneres now — I have more freedom, and I can draw and sketch what I want to and send it to our manufacturers and go from there.

So I’ll definitely have more I can be more creative. I can definitely get more influenced from the fashion outside of just colors. I mean, I love working for HSN. We’re doing incredible there, but I wanted to expand with Aneres.

It will be really fun. I’m really excited. I’m already starting the wheels on that.

Q. Is it more high end?

SERENA WILLIAMS: It’s definitely more high end, but it’s also really it’s also reasonable as well.

Take, for instance, someone like me. I do make a lot of money, but I’m not going to spend I’m the type of person that’s not going to spend $10,000 or even $1,000 for a top.

The prices, we’re still working on it. It’s going to be very it’s not going to be like Forever 21, but it’s going to be more or less like BCBG prices.

When asked about her next HSN appearance, Serena said that the next collection would appear in September, but that she herself would not appear again to hawk her products until February 2014.

No Mas NYC - U.S. Open of Surfing - Tank Top

No Mas has released their “inaugural celebration of the sporting life aquatic” — a reinterpretation of the jersey from 1963’s U.S. Surfboard Championship in Huntington Beach, CA. Designed in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Pilgrim Surf + Supply, these tops are how we’d like that event to be memorialized. Instead of, you know, YouTube vids of bros tipping over portable toilets.

merchant of tennis (channel)

Tennis Channel Sells Merchandise through Shop the TVThe folks at Tennis Channel launched an online store this week featuring network-branded merchandise and gear, accessible via tennischannel.com and shopthetv.com. The network partnered with Delivery Agent on this project.

The initial offering is standard branded fare — t-shirts, mobile phone cases, tablet cases, mugs with Tennis Channel logos and slogans — so we expect the store to step up its game after the marketing folks get their feet wet. (Jerseys, right?)
