adidas didn’t really come up with any goods for this year’s French Open; by the time we saw play on the red dirt, Ana Ivanovic had already been playing in the Neo Red Edge Dress for three months (since Dubai).
Perhaps the plan was to wait patiently for maximum exposure. While Masha and her Elsa Perretti earrings faded early, as did Serena and her Nike doubles dress, Kirilenko in Stella McCartney — the list goes on — the three-striped sports giant slowly made its way through the draw.
And now their Competition and Edge lines (on Safina and Ivanovic, respectively) are the only ones standing on this given Sunday. Ivanovic beat the sore Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a thrilling match which had each set won by the person who fell behind at the start. This victory gives Ana the No. 1 ranking.
Meanwhile, Dinara crushed fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-2 — a much cleaner match compared to her previous two (she had to come back from match point down to beat Masha and Dementieva).
