want: novak shirt from the serbia open store

Window shopping: TSF’s had its moments of “hunh?” with the hairstyles of Novak Djokovic — especially when he lets a buzzed head overgrow into Chia Pet territory — so we smiled upon seeing this shirt that is all about that. These are the goods being sold on-site at this week’s Serbia Open. (Flashback: An old shirt with a Nole-specific ‘do.)

Fingers crossed: We can only hope they dove off the deep end and actually printed this one.

Brackets: Nole headlines the night match tomorrow. He’ll go up against qualifier Adrian Ungur. OOP is below.

one giant through, the other falls

Varying versions of that honeycomb pattern were on the Nike dudes as they showed up for clay events this week. JMdP wore the Green Apple version of the Showdown Movement tee during his first-round win at the Estoril Open, where he needed to beat Portuguese qualifier Pedro Sousa 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to advance. Delpo has a potential quarterfinal match against top seed Robin Soderling. Draw: Estoril Open.

Buy: Nike Showdown Movement Tennis Top, Green Apple and Tour Yellow, $55, tennisexpress.com.

And in Belgrade, John Isner‘s run at the Serbia Open ended abrubtly with his 6-4, 7-6 (4) loss to Ricardo Mello, who’ll next face Blaz Kavcic. He shares the same quarter as top seed Djokovic. Live scores: Get caught up on the happenings here.

shirtless: tim smyczek

Anyone else ready to make this Donald Young vs. P-Mac story about Tim Smyczek instead? (Aside from Forty Deuce, we mean.) After all, Tim’s the guy who beat Young 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in that USTA six-man playoff in Boca West to nab a wildcard spot into Roland Garros this year. FYI: Smyczek’s never played the French. On the women’s side, top seed Irina Falconi beat third seed Julia Boserup 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

More news: Dunlop announced today that they’re making Tim a part of their roster (though he’s been playing with their racquets even before the signing). His apparel and shoes are via adidas.

Shirtless: Here’s Smyczek getting sun and practice at this year’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. On the other side of the net: Ryan Sweeting. Enjoy!

spotted in the city: caro’s all in and mlb fan cave

Window treatment: The window spot has been up and down for Caroline Wozniacki — the face (and bod) for the Stella McCartney line — at the adidas store in SoHo. But she’s “all in” currently, sporting a big smile as spring brings about the French Open.

It’s not for hibernating: We’re digging Major League Baseball‘s MLB Fan Cave, just a few blocks up from Caro’s corner spot on Broadway in Greenwich Village. The spot just opened below the new Blink Fitness and offers a “a first-of-its-kind immersive fan experience,” says MLB.com. Of course they’re watching games all day, but big-time players are dropping in on occasion and there is plenty of up-close-and-personal interactive activities for fans to experience. Two, no three, snaps to whoever thought of this gem.

City spottings don’t just happen in NYC. Have one? Send it to us. We love “fan” mail.

trophy watch: trophy-less shots of trophy winners

Their prizes come in faces: Don’t worry, we have shots of last week’s winners — Rafael Nadal and Julia Goerges — with their trophies after the cut, but how about those celebratory faces? I know, I’ve said this before with Rafa, but these two really look like they enjoy winning. Two very different storylines accompanied their respective wins: for Nadal, he is the man who no one can beat (or touch) and for Julia, she was the hometown hero who took out the world no. 1. Congrats, folks.

Oh right, and their trophies after the cut. [Read more...]

that painting is brill

Upper right corner, my friends. Nole posing next to his Pacific Life Open trophy. Amazing.

(God, how we miss that whale.)

This photo was taken during the ceremony held at this week’s Serbia Open in Belgrade to hand diplomatic passports to Ana Jovanovic, Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic, Nenad Zimonjic, Viktor Troicki, and Novak Djokovic.

“I am honored to promote to diplomatic service people who have contributed to the popularity of Serbia in the world,” said Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. “There is not a single country in the world which wouldn’t be honored to have you as ambassadors.”

tennis channel: soon for the comcast masses?

Tennis Channel and Comcast will go before the FCC Administration Law Judge today to settle a complaint filed by TC calling out the cable distrbutor for discrimination. TC execs want their network to join Golf Channel and Versus in Comcast’s basic tier offerings, but Comcast says it’s too expensive to set up. (Of course, Golf Channel and Versus are owned by Comcast.)

We’ll let you know when we hear of any updates.

big brother nole

It’s almost a little creepy how omnipresent Nole is at the Serbia Open, no? Even when he’s not around, there’s a statue to take his place. If you remember, this is the terra cotta replica commissioned by the ATP for the players participating in the 2007 year-end championships. (Flashback: See all eight statues — for Nole, Ferrer, Federer, Gonzo, Kolya, Rafa, Gasquet, and Roddick)

Work it: All the Serbia Open fashion show pics here.

Work it: The singles draw has Nole, Troicki, GG Lopez, Montanes, Isner, Gulbis, Janko, and Pico as the top eight seeds. Draw: Serbia Open.

fashion focus: the claws come out at the easter bowl

We <3 Colette Lewis for being our eyes and ears in the juniors front. She was out in Rancho Mirage, Calif. earlier this month to cover the Easter Bowl, and snapped these pics of a Boys’ 14s EB champ Ernesto Escobedo wearing a brand we’ve never seen: Raptor. A few other highly ranked SoCal juniors were wearing these kits, too.

Read up: Colette’s Easter Bowl write-up.

Who’s the raptor? Anyone out there with more details about this brand? Write us back — we’d love to know!
