I was actually pretty surprised with Sveta winning her round 2 against Petkovic. I mean she was a set down, and she almost never wins matches when she’s a set down. [Her last one was against Angelique Kerber in AO, and the one before that was probably in 1946.] I never thought she’d actually keep her head while being down three match points, and build rallies instead of hitting like a maniac. Of course she went down to Kirilenko, but again she was fighting. She was mentally tough, though physically not quite there (maybe needs to tone down her body a bit). I kind of like this new Sveta – she has always had the ability to win any match she plays, and this new-found mental toughness might actually help her to be more consistent in future.

Another great match was Henin-Sharapova. It was incredible, and even though Henin came out on top, you’ve got to give it to Sharapova for being so mentally tough. For all her inabilities on clay, she gave the clay queen a run for her money.

  2. I think my biggest shocker was seeing Marat Safin on the tv screen at the Federer Wawrinka match. I miss him so! :( I’m having trouble looking for pictures or video clips of that moment.

Biggest shock: how poorly designed the dress that Venus wore was. It looked like it was badle sewn, too.
