Thought D-Listed was just an international affair? Not so, our friends. Here’s the third installment of our D-Listed series, set on the quaint campus of Yale University. The first two, Wimbeldon-inspired installments are here and here.
Wayne Bryan was a sight all over the grounds of the Yale Tennis Center, sporting a bright yellow adidas tee and a black cap. Bryan was doing some work for the tournament – commentating after center court matches included – and was not in attendance to watch his sons blow eight (count ‘em, eight!) championship points in Cincinnati. Bryan has been a fixture on the tour for years, and though he often travels with Mike and Bob, he’s made his own career out of emceeing events like the Pilot Pen and World Team Tennis. Atta boy, Wayne!
Prior to his on-court announcing after the Nadia Petrova-Anna Chakvetadze roller coaster, Bryan was spotted chatting up who we’re convinced was none other than Australian Alicia Molik. What do you think, folks? Is it she?!? We’re pretty sure that Molik is in New Haven practicing to keep her comeback on track, but who knows… we could be as off as Anna was in that dang first set against our girl Nadia.
Ok, so it’s not the most flattering picture of That-Might-Be-Alicia-Molik-Girl (let’s just call her Al for now), but c’mon people, she’s definitely someone! We’re just not sure who…
Meanwhile, just a few feet from Al, Marion Bartoli took in most of the first set of the Petty-ChakChak match. Later in the day, when the two Russians were still on court in the third set, Svetlana Kuznetsova hopped courtside (near Al, of course!) to take in her two compatriots doing battle. Sveta paid little attention to the match itself, mostly giggling with a gal pal and typing away on her Blackberry.
Our fave sighting of the day definitely came on the practice courts: there was a shirtless Fernando Verdasco (not as yummy up close… just saying!), Flavia Pennetta wearing peach, Ai Sugiyama, Tommy Robredo and our absolute fave, Uncle Toni 2.0. To get a glimpse of Toni and who he might be coaching, read on.
A watchful eye: Uncle Toni 2.0 keeps tabs on Verdasco on the practice court. Seriously, he’s our hero, D-List style.
