tattoo watch: timea bacsinszky

Thanks to everyone for clearing up the tattoo confusion for me. This tattoo, mistakenly attributed to Maria Sharapova, is actually that of Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky. She lost 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 to fifth seed Elena Dementieva.

Could he really do it?

Butter’s Bubble

Marat Safin won his 3rd round Wimbledon match against Andreas Seppi, 7-6, 3-6 ,6-7, 6-4. Is it still shocking that he won another match? It’s so hard to feel confident to watch him play these days.

If Safin could escape another match, he could face Marcos Baghdatis or Feliciano Lopez! The latter ousted Marat during their 3rd round match in Wimbledon back in 2005.

Remember this? lol….

Mario Ancic and Roger Federer are also in the same section of the draw as Marat, so he’ll need all the luck he can get. As much as I love to see Marat go deep into the tournament, I have to be realistic. His chances are kinda slim.

eleVen spreads its wings

Venus Williams must be getting excited that her clothing line, EleVen is finally catching on. Russian Nadia Petrova, who is no longer with French company Airness, is through to the fourth round of these Championships wearing EleVen whites. The press asked Venus for comment after her first round match.

Q. You brought out a new clothes line here, but you have Petrova wearing your clothes, right?
VW: Uh-huh.

Q. Is that the first time you’ve had another player wearing your clothes? Talk about how you worked that out with her.
VW: I think she’s just in transition between — was in transition, so she I think wanted — she was doing me a favor. So I’m hoping to see her in the clothes. I saw her in some warmups yesterday, but I haven’t seen her in the match clothes. I’m hoping to see her. She’s a great girl. I have a lot of respect for her on and off the court. She’s a good person.

Scoreline: 21st seed Petrova upset the 16th seed Victoria Azarenka to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon. There she will face either Shuai Peng or the Sharapova-thrashing Alla Kudryavtseva.

top seed falls before bearing wimbledon fruit

Following in the footsteps of French Open top seed Maria Sharapova, Wimbledon top seed Ana Ivanovic, who fought off two match points in her second round match against Nathalie Dechy, fell to the Chinese wildcard Zheng Jie today 6-1, 6-4.

“It was a very emotional last couple of weeks for me and it took a bit of a toll,” revealed Ivanovic. “I didn’t have great preparation.”

Zheng performance made Ivanovic the earliest top seed to bow out of Wimbledon since Martina Hingis got booted by Jelena Dokic in 2001. The native of Chengdu, Sichuan, China wore a Nike top with a curved v-neck.

Meanwhile, Ana shed the florally-hemmed Edge Dress after her first round match against Rossana De Los Rios. She then switched to the more sophisticated Edge Polo with its boatneck collar, cap sleeves, and swirly mesh insets.
