the women's final: henin wins but sveta shines

Congrats to Justine Henin for taking her second U.S. Open title (her first came in 2003) by beating Svetlana Kuznetsova — the 2004 U.S. Open champ — 6-1, 6-3.

Henin wore her ho-hum orange adidas separates, and Kuznetsova wore the same outfit from Fila that she’s been sporting all week.

We did notice a few more things this time around: Kuznetsova has a necklace with an “S” in cursive lettering, and her bandana was personalized with a monogram.

I love these little touches that make the ensemble hers. (Do you agree? Tell us!)

Bonus round: In case you’re wondering, that Mary Cohr badge on her red tank is from sponsor Baronesse Cosmetiques, whose stable includes Sveta, Thomas Johansson, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Paul Capdeville, and Tamira Paszek.

  1. How did you fail to notice her necklace before? That tacky S dangling between her boobs for two weeks has been driving me crazy!

  2. I will take big “S” over cornrows any day.

And Saturday was the first time I saw her play all week. (I don’t have cable…)

  3. Kuznetsova was the 2004 US Open Ladies Champ, not in 2005.
(Clijster’s won her only Slam at US Open in 2005.) :)
