mattek slides out in silver

In her secound-round loss to 18th seed Shahar Peer, the Cher of tennis — Bethanie Mattek — wore a slightly more tame silver top and headband from the Bebe Sport collection.

We’re all probably better off, but I was really curious to see what the other two outfits were… More metallic shades, perhaps?

We can only hope that Mattek undergoes a Christina Aguliera like transformation from the “Dirty” phase to Glam. In the meantime though, is it really soooo bad? It’s exactly this type of player and the ensuing coverage generated that makes the U.S. Open great sport spectacle. It’s always been a little more irreverent than any of the other Slams. I, for one, would have loved to have seen the other outfits. Just saying…

^ I agree with jj91 to an extent. The irreverence of the US Open is palpable. It’s great for that, the raucous nighttime crowds, and more. And to her credit, Mattek paired with Sania Mirza to upend the No. 2-seeded team of Raymond-Stosur in women’s doubs today. She’s doing something right.

i wish bebe sport would have chosen someone more…ummm…bebe-like girl (*ahem* eva langoria)? as their representative? i mean no offense to mattek but i would picture vaidisova , sharapova, or kirilenko wearing bebe than mattek.
